CHARLESTON COUNTY, SC – One person was injured a car accident involving a tractor-trailer on Highway 17 on Wednesday morning, WCSC reports.

Officials said the car accident happened around 7am on Highway 17 near Davidson Road.

The incident happened when a tractor-trailer struck a St. John’s Fire SUV, causing the driver of the SUV to be trapped until crews could extract them.

The driver of the SUV, confirmed to be a St. John’s Firefighter, was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.

Officials say the initial investigation suggests the tractor-trailer did not stop at a red light, but the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the crash.
