GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC – A driver died after they rear-ended a school bus on US 17A near Georgetown on Dec. 2, according to WCSC.
The bus was from Sampit Elementary School. It was carrying five adults and 22 students to Ripley’s Aquarium in Myrtle Beach when a 58-year-old van driver hit the back of the bus as it slowed down for a railroad crossing around 8:45 a.m.
Rescue crews transported the van driver to an area hospital, where he died. They also transported the driver, one adult passenger, and six students to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials have not released the van driver’s name.
