HORRY COUNTY, SC – According to WPDE, a person fleeing from police died in a crash near W Bear Grass Rd and Hemingway Rd Saturday.

The chase began when a Horry County deputy saw a Lexus traveling above the speed limit on Plantation Rd. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop and the Lexus driver sped away.

The chase reached speeds of over 128 mph and the deputy lost sight of the suspect.

The suspect eventually crashed near W Bear Grass Rd and Hemmingway Rd.

Levious Hayes, 24, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. Hayess was the passenger in the Lexus. Rescue crews pronounced Hayes dead a the scene and transported the driver to an area hospital.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
