COLUMBIA, SC – A teen died when a driver crashed into the pond of the Chestnut Hill Plantation subdivision near Lost Creek Dr and Boat Ramp Rd Saturday, according to WIS.

The driver of a Jeep Cherokee was fleeing from police at speeds reaching 100 mph when they crashed into the pond around 12:05 a.m.

First responders rescued five teens from the vehicle and crews transported them to an area hospital. One teen did not resurface.

Divers located the missing teen’s body three hours later at around 10 a.m.

The incident is under investigation by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and the Columbia Police Department.
