LEXINGTON COUNTY, SC – Authorities have sentenced a man to 15 years in prison for a fatal drunk driving accident that killed a 15-year-old boy on February 5, 2021.
According to WACH, Arcenio Perez Maldonado was driving a Toyota Tacoma when he collided with a Toyota Sequoia. The impact caused the Sequoia to slam into a car occupied by the 15-year-old and his mother.
The 15-year-old was airlifted to an area hospital, where he later died.
Authorities determined that Perez Maldonado had a BAC of .187, which is higher than the state’s legal limit of .08. They charged Perez Maldonado with Felony Dui resulting in great bodily injury. This charge was upgraded to Felony DUI Involving Death when the 15-year-old died.
Perez Maldonado is serving his sentence at the Lexington County detention center.
