RICHLAND COUNTY, SC – Officials have released the name of the driver who fatally struck a tree at Mullis Rd and Claude Bundrick Rd Friday.

According to The State, Joesph Freeman Jr., 53, was driving a Nissan Maxima south on Mullis Rd when he strayed off the road and slammed into a tree at around 4:30 a.m.

It is unclear if Freeman died at the scene or at an area hospital.

The incident is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
