Attorney at Law William C. Crantford

William C. Crantford grew up in a family that valued public affairs, politics, and community involvement. He developed a profound interest in government from an early age and was actively involved in politics by the time he was in high school. While completing his B.A. in Political Science at Louisiana State University, William took a course on the community and the law that helped crystallize his future path. After graduating from LSU in 2009, he worked on statewide political campaigns in South Carolina before turning his attention fully to the law.

William joined the staff of a prominent complex-litigation law firm in Charleston as a researcher, where his practical training confirmed his desire to become a trial lawyer. He enrolled at the Charleston School of Law, where he earned recognition for his pro bono work outside the classroom, made the Dean’s List, received the CALI Award for Pleadings and Practice, and was honored with the Public Interest Award and Conviser Fellowship from BARBRI. During law school, William also served as a clerk for the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

After graduating and passing the South Carolina Bar in 2014, William was selected as Law Clerk to the Honorable Maite Murphy of the South Carolina Circuit Court. Over the course of a year, he traveled the circuit and the state, participating in hundreds of pleadings, hearings, and trials. That hands-on courtroom education shaped his approach to litigation. In August 2015, William partnered with Jerry Meehan to form Crantford Meehan, Attorneys at Law, LLC, where he has practiced ever since.

In 2019, William attended and graduated from Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyers College in Dubois, Wyoming — an intensive three-week program dedicated to training lawyers committed to the jury system and to representing individuals. He is AV Preeminent® Rated by Martindale-Hubbell — the highest peer rating standard for legal ability and ethical standards — and has been named a Super Lawyers Rising Star each year from 2020 through 2025. William is also a Lifetime Member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and serves as a Delegate to the South Carolina Bar House of Delegates.

Beyond his work in the courtroom, William maintains an active role in the broader bar and the Lowcountry community. He is a member of the South Carolina Association for Justice, the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Charleston County Bar Association, the Dorchester County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Summerville Chamber of Commerce.
